After being amazed there, we headed over to the old state
capitol. This capitol is elegance and grace embodied in the form of a building.
The outside is shaped like a castle with ornate sculpture work all around it.
When you walk in the first thing you see is a spiral staircase. This stair case
is made out of wrought iron and has a singular pillar that serves as a brace
for the impressive 20’ diameter circle stain glass dome. The light shows
through the glass as crimson, gold and azul.
After spending some time in downtown Baton Rouge we headed
over to Cupcakes and Cream where we bought some cupcakes to enjoy in the car.
We started going towards Mississippi and along the way we saw a scenic route. So being the adventurers we are, we decided
to take the road less traveled by and discovered how beautiful the Mississippi
beaches are. The beach front road
literally ran right along the beach where, at any moment, you could pull off
the side of the road and step into the sand.
We drove quite a ways down the beaches till it became dark,
and since we were all getting very tired we decided to try to find a hotel. We
ended up spending the night in a Best Western and I slept like a rock, maybe a
little too hard for getting up and 6:00 am.
